Yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis??.?
Yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis??.?
Ok, i went ti the doctor a few days ago, because i had a yellowish discharge and i thought i mite have a yeast infection or something (i haven’t ever had one before so idk what it was). And i had sex for the first time this month.)18..First i did research on it and the symptoms were like yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis. yellowish discharge slight itching. burning when peeing/irritation..So when i went i go a urine pregnancy test (negative.) An I told him i think i had a yeast infection but wasn’t sure so he gave me two prescriptions one for (1) yeast infection pill and metronidazole (flagyl). so i took the yeast infection pill and started my first metronidazole flagyl pill,i take two aday 6 hours apart for only five day tomorrow is my last day. But im not sure is its clearing up properly. And after doing more research today i found out yeast infections can be caused by antibiotics. Isn’t metronidazole flagyl And antibiotic?.So what is i had B.V Instead of The Yeast Infection or vice versa would having two medicines effect clearing it up?. and do i have to be refereed to a gyn by my doctor?

Yeah since this is a confusing problem and since you seem to be still having symptoms, I’d go get a yeast infection monostat at your nearest walgreens or pharmacy. what it is, is you insert these things into your vagina and they melt and its weird but it gets rid of the infection within three days it really helps alot.
Good question; yes, metronidazole is an antibiotic, but no it doesn’t cause BV, because it actually attacks the specific bacterium that overgrows in BV because of the lack of competition after the other bacteria got knocked out by a previous antibiotic (or just by bad luck). Be sure not to drink alcohol while on metronidazole or for 2 days after.
You don’t need to be referred to a gyne.
If the symptoms don’t get better, go back to your usual doctor, you might need a longer treatment than the average person. Still not serious. BTW did you get tested for STD’s?
that definetly sound like yeast infection and not BV. try taking the yeast infection meds without interference, but first go online and see home remedies for BV and yeast infection and try them first. drink lots of cranberry juice and eat yogurt bcause it has live cultures that are probiotic and not antibiotic. but y cant your doctor tell the two apart? you need a new doctor.
The doctor should have taken a vaginal swab to test you for BV and/or Yeast Infection. Your symptoms appear more to be a yeast infection since BV usually has a fishy odor but he treated you for both anyway. I hope you are in a committed relationship and used protection. If you did not use a condom, then make sure your symptoms clear up to rule out any chance of having caught an STD that is mimicking a yeast infection.
I think I have a yeast infection all the time, I just have a messed up pH balance due to a few old ruptured cysts when I was like 11 and 12, and I still have a few, but it runs in my family, we all have female problems. I also take a birth control and have switched a few times and have since I was 11 because of the cysts. If you think it is a yeast infection start eating yogurt, and listen to your doctor but give him as much input as possible, it’s okay to get embarassed and talk about problems, he’s your doctor and there to help you, and secondly he’s a doctor, gynocologist to be exact, he’s deffinatly used to it, it’s okay. Take your medicine and stick it out for a little while, keep it clean and wipe front to back or dab.
I know it’s vague but it’s hard to tell from just a description, hope I helped.
