It would depend on the infection but overall, I'd rather have a viral infection. Generally speaking, bacterial infections tend to be more serious. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses them to reproduce and spread. A bacteria is its own living cell and multiplies and spreads on its own and is easier to destroy but....

Viruses. Most are self-limited and respond to supportive care. While there are a few bacterial infections that don't necessarily require medical treatment, most do and antibiotics have adverse reactions that can cause serious problems in their own right.

viral infections can live within your system without affecting you for some time and your body has its own immune response to combat most viruses on their own; but once you have a bacterial infection, the bacteria continues to propagate, take over your system and could become fatal, if not cause serious damage. Bacterial infections require antibiotic treatment, if available. A lot of viral infections/diseases have vaccination and can be treated. No situation is a good one. But if you contract a virus that has no treatment or vaccine, it develops into a disease and you are immunosuppressed (have a weak immune system), you may die.
