Thrush or Bacterial Vaginosis…?
Hi I have had a few problems in this area for 4 years now. Im 20 and it makes me sooo depressed.
Well I have suffered from Thrush most of the time. They have tested me a number of times and it has come back as this. They have tested me a MILLION times for any sti’s or std’s etc. All clear!
I have experienced pain during sex and bleeding. I was told my cervix cells are eroding and its not a problem. I was then also diagnosed with Polycystic Ovaries after four years of being fobbed off.
The thing is everything is making sense now. Apart from the fact I have thrush all the time. I have tried everything to get rid of it for good! I was thinking maybe I could have Bacterial Vaginosis? As I do experience mild symptoms. I was just wondering if anyone would know how you are diagnosed for this? And also that my tests that came back as thrush, could it be BV instead but not show up. Im so fed up, Ive seen so many doctors and got nowhere. It took me 4 years for them to decide to check me for PCOS. And now my thrush I feel like its gonna take 8 years to get this sorted!! =(
Does anyone have any experiences that may help my situation? Any information that may help me? I will go back to the doctors but they just test me again for infections and then send me away with thrush tablets again and again. What the hell is wrong with me? =(
I did ask my doctor to refer me to a gynecologist, but he said to try the pessaries and tablets and this cream stuff he gave me. But everytime i go back he just tells me to take more of them.
Thanks for your answer. I will demand I am referred as its getting ridiculous, they are obsessed with checking me for sexually transmitted diseases even when i tell them Im not sexually active anymore. Your info has helped me =)

I"m pretty sure bacterial vaginosis is diagnosed by culturing the bacteria (taking a sample from your vagina). I assume it would be possible to have both BV and thrush, but I’m sure they would have tested for each. You understand that bacteria and yeasts are normal flora of your vagina…and when one of those gets off balance..it causes a decrease or increase in your pH of the vagina. If the bacteria increase, it’s called BV. If the the yeast increase, it’s considered a yeast infection (like vaginal thrush which is also know as candidiasis I believe because it’s cause by the yeast Candida albicans).
Edit: You could have both at the same time (thrush and BV), but hopefully they have tested you for BV. One could cause the other (check link I provided)
I’m sorry to hear about all of your problems. I’m sure you’ve been told this a millions times, but make sure you’re not using any cleansers for your vagina that can disrupt that normal balance.
You said you’ve been to the doctor. Have you been specifically to an OB-GYN? If so, they are doing a terrible job…unless you’re doing something wrong on your end.
Edit: I just re-read everything and I don’t think I was too helpful unless you didn’t understand why you had thrush.. I wish I knew what was wrong with you though. Change doctors though…that’s for sure.
