Soap can cause bacterial vaginosis?
So I was speaking to my doctor yesterday and she told me the best way for women to avoid Bacterial vaginosis(infection) is to only wash with water. She says that is more common than yeast infections and that most women get it because they wash with soap. Is this true or not? If it is true what can I use to wash "down there" because I refuse to wash with water only.

Soap can change the pH level of the vagina, which causes the infection. You can use a plain, very mild soap to clean your vulva, but don’t use soap to clean inside your vagina. Just use warm water. That is all you need because the vagina cleans itself already.
Yes, especially scented soap.. ask her to prescribe you ketoconazole shampoo is a shampoo that helps with bv, yeast infection.. or also use Dove unscented soap… if you dont want to only use water. But a doctor knows what they are talking about
It is true, and I’ll tell you why. We women have a delicate balance of bacteria and yeast already living down there. The bacteria keeps the yeast in check by killing it when there’s too much, and the yeast kills the bacteria when there is too much. They feed off each other. When there’s not enough yeast, the bacteria gets out of control causing bacterial vaginosis. When there isn’t enough bacteria, it causes a yeast infection. If you wash with soap, you can kill the yeasts that keep the bacteria from running amuck, and/or you can kill the bacteria that keeps the yeasts in check. If you wash with only water, it doesn’t affect this balance, so you remain "fresh" even though you didn’t wash with soap. Just letting you know that, because it seems you think it’s gross to wash without soap or something, but you’ll find that if you wash with water only, you won’t stink like you think you will. Thank the yeasts and bacteria for that one!
Yeah, your vagina would would be very sensitive to change. soap can cause a chemical in balance to the natural PH levels down there which can cause things like bacterial vaginosis and yeast infection. your doctor is right though, most women would develop this from excessively washing there and using soap, generally a soap that isn’t meant for that area like scented. i think it is best if you just stick to washing down there with water as you can still be clean and wouldn’t have to worry about the possible risk of either of these. but if you really want to use soap to wash you vagina, i recommend that you buy PH friendly non scented soaps, this will not change the natural healthy PH levels already present and you would not have to worry about getting bacterial vaginosis as much
anyway good luck, hope i helped
Having bacterial vaginosis can be truly awful and it is really not ideal to use soap to wash "down there". You can opt to use feminine wash that are commonly available in supermarkets and trusted drugstores. Hi
any reason for refusing to wash with plain water- trust me it is the best if you wash 2-3 times a day with plain water. Soaps, deos and sprays tend to contain chemicals which often disturb the natural vaginal flora
If you must use a soap, visit a health food store and look out for MILD soap for use in sensitive body parts
