I had bacterial vaginitis about a year ago and It seemed like it came over night…the smell was beyond disgusting and pungant. I am not itchy or anything…no burning but i have a slight "off" smell that is kinda fishy smelling. I think its the starts to something bad…you think monistat should take care of it?

If it’s bacterial you’ll need to see your doctor, as you’ll need an antbiotic. Monistat is an antifungal would be useless.
Monistat is for a yeast infection. NOT bacterial vaginitis. So I don’t think it would help or hurt. Just go to your doctor.
Sorry, but Monistat is useful for yeast infections only. The "fishy" smell is a definite sign of Bacterial vaginitis, caused by the bacteria, Gardnerella… which means, you need antibiotics to treat this infection. In most cases, a simple call to the doc’s office will get you a prescription, provided that you’ve had something similar before… However, I would keep the monistat handy anyway, because there’s a decent chance that you could get a yeast infection after the course of antibiotics….. yeah… so much fun being a girl sometimes, isn’t it??

I used to get BV a lot, and my doctor told me to put a cup of hydrogen peroxide in a few inches of warm bath water and sit there for 15 minutes, it helps balance the Ph. Another thing he told me was to get PLAIN yogurt, and apply to the area. Be sure to let it warm up to room temp, because I did it right out of the fridge and MAN was it cold! Monistat will not help. OH, but that over the counter stuff called "RePhresh" is designed to help balance out the Ph, the unbalance of which is what causes the BV, because your normal "good" bacteria gets outnumbered by "bad" bacteria.
Monistat is an antifungal and will have no positive effect on vaginitis. In fact, using it could cause you to have more trouble then you do already.
