How to treat bacterial vaginosis?

I went to the doctor yesterday and she told me I had bacterial vaginosis and she gave me some cream for it (similar to treatment for yeast infections) The directions werent clear on how long to keep it in there, or how soon it would work. When do I know that its cleared up? For some reason I think I should be on antibiotics…will the cream cure it?

Check the name on the vaginal cream. If it is called Metrogel (metronidazole) then you’ve got the right stuff.
Metronidazole is the first choice for treating BV. It comes in pill form (Flagyl) or cream/gel form (Metrogel).
And if your drug isn’t metronidazole, then tell us what it is ,and maybe we can tell you if you should get a second opinion.
Doctors commonly treat bacterial BV with antibiotics (Flagyl) or a vaginal cream or gel.
