American Pie: It is actually not a "tough one to cure". It is treated very easily with antibiotics. You just need to be on the right TYPE of antibiotic. Sometimes organisms are resistant to certain types of antibiotics and another one needs to be used.
Anyway, Angel, you should NOT have sex. Your doctor should have told you that. Even anal is not a good idea as you are risking more bacteria to be in the area. The anus is a very bacteria-laden place!
Most likely the bacteria that is causing your BV is Gardnerella.
Most importantly, though, is your sexual partner being treated? He should be on antibiotics as well or he could simply reinfect you! You could keep on passing it back and forth! He needs to be treated as well, and I am very disappointed in the doctor for not letting you know that. Men don’t have any symptoms and it does not cause them any health problems, they are just carriers.
Gardnerella is technically, medically NOT classified as an STD as it is normal flora in some cases. It can be isolated from normal, healthy women who do not have any symptoms and are not sexually active.
If it is causing bacterial vaginosis, it is because there has been a shift in the flora of the vagina, the pH increases, and the Gardnerella is able to take over.
So, to keep you from further agony, get your partner to the doctor and refrain from sex until you are BOTH done with your antibiotics.
Take care!

first of all vaginosis is a tough one to cure. Although it is harmless the bacteria thrives there. I have taken Flagyl and I’m now on my second round. The odor is gross but no discharge right?. as far as anal sex I’d wait til you are cleared you are only risking getting another infection.I was never told I cannot have sex but unless you wash well the odor still persists. Its a tough one to cure but eventually it does go away. Id say refrain from sex and focus on something else. You can do other things without penetration. good luck
