Usually, the medicine called Metro-gel is prescribed.
It is inserted every night for 5 nights – it is a gel like substance that comes with applicators.
Are you sure you have BV. Usually there is a fishy smell, sometimes when you urinate or after you have sex.and you have a discharge . (altho, some women don’t have this discharge or any irritation.
The mans ejaculate can alter the ph balance in the vagina and can set the criteria for developing this infection.
But you need to be sure that you have BV and this requires a visit to your gyno to get diagnosed and get a prescription.
There is no over the counter meds for BV.
treatment is either clindamycin vaginal cream, metronidazole vaginal gel or oral metronidazole
tablets. The oral metronidazole can cause some minor but unpleasant side effects, but is believed to be the most effective treatment. The gels do not typically cause side effects, although yeast vaginitis can occur as a side effect of the medication.
Tinidazole is an antibiotic that appears to have fewer side effects than metronidazole and is also effective in treating bacterial vaginosis.
I had this over the summer and it SUCKED. You have to go to the doctor, a nurse practitioner or to a women’s clinic. They will do a swab to check and make sure that is what you have, then they will prescribe an antibiotic that you insert into the vagina while you sleep. After they do this they usually send a sample to the lab for confirmation that what you have is Bacterial Vaginosis. I had to do the antibiotics for 3 nights, and it cleared up really fast. If you have a lot of irritation from the infection outside of the vagina (on labia, etc.) your doctor can give you a steroid cream which will help calm down the irritation and itchiness.
But you need to go to your doctor very quickly if you suspect that this is what you have. When I had it, I didn’t have a really bad smell, but my discharge was a strange consistency and the color was a bright yellow-green. (In the old Crayola boxes, the color would have been Spring Green). But there are a variety of colors from yellow to green that can indicate an infection.
When I had the antibiotics, I found that if I tried to insert it sitting or standing, it would not stay in. I had to insert it while laying on my back and then lay there for a few minutes. When I stood up I really had to clench, but I was only up long enough to wash the applicator in hot, soapy water and wash my hands. Once you have it in, you are supposed to stay laying down for the night.
Good luck!
I just had that problem couple of months ago!!!
All those antibiotic and vaginal gels that doctors will prescribe you (mentioned above), will not treat the problem, the only thing antibiotics do is killing bad bacteria (that causes vaginosis) and the good bacteria.
I tried every antibiotic they prescribed me, orally, vaginally, and nothing helped! i had same problem reoccurring each month after my period.
I stopped eating sugary foods (glucose feeds the bad bacteria) and i started taking Acidophilus Pribiotic (its a yogurt culture in pills, you can buy it at any store!, vitamin section) And it worked!!!! Ive been taking Acidophilus since then, and never ever again i had Vaginosis.
I attached couple of links, so you can check it out.
Good luck!
hi
I dont know about others but for me antibiotics did not work at all.
What worked was a natural technique which gave me permanent relief from the infection.
