Difference between the causes of Bacterial Vaginosis and Yeast Infection?
I have previously had case of Bacterial Vaginosis and it is back. From research I have found that the symptoms are similar to those of yeast infection, but are the causes of both infections different? I ask mainly because my period is late by 5 days and I from my research I have found that the rise in Estrogen levels in pregnancy can cause a yeast infection, but is this the same for bacterial vaginosis? Should I be worried that I am pregnant? I have had the infection for almost two weeks (way before my period was even due) and I also went through a lot of stress and sleep deprivation from school exams.

yeast infection is from an overabundance of a particular type of yeast that is already prevelant in your system. eating yogurt with activated cultures regularly is a good way to prevent yeast infections. Bacterial Vaginosis is caused by bacteria which is not a part of the normal "environment" down there.
As a side note- antibiotics are known to cause yeast infections so watch out for that.
I must correct the previous person. BV is a imbalance of the normal vaginal flora. Lactobacilli is wiped out and Gardnerella and various anaerobes which are normal in the female vagina , overgrows and causes the BV.
