kept thinking I was having bladder problems because I was leaking this clear fluid all the time. I thought I had a bladder infection so I went to the dr. today and they told me no I didn’t have a bladder infection. I said I was having a burning feeling in that area, peeing alot, and pelvic pressure, something was wrong but I did not know what. She decided to do a swab and said immediately I have bacterial vaginosis. I am 17 weeks prego and scared for my baby! I did some research and it seems bacterial vaginosis can cause pre term labor and a low birth weight. I think I’ve had the infection for a long time without knowing so I am really stressed out.
So my question is, has anyone else been diagnosed with this during pregnancy and how did your pregnancy go?
The dr. prescribed me a cream to get rid of it in 7 days. I wish she would have given me pills instead.
It’s good to know that it’s pretty normal during pregnancy. Hearing you ladies stories really helped me. Thanks alot.

Throughout my pregnancy I have been diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis on two seperate occasions. My midwife prescribed Metronidazole (Flagyl) for me on those two occasions and it seemed to help. Just recently we went back for a lab work appointment and they found that it has come back once again (but only small traces). This time my midwife prescribed Clindamyacin, in hopes that it would clear the bacterial infection completely. She thought that my body might have become immune to the other antibiotic. I’m getting really tired of taking so many antibiotics and medications though, and I simply would like to not take this last one that she prescribed. I just don’t feel comfortable taking it while pregnant, especially now for the third time!
At 27 weeks I began having contractions and was placed on light bed rest (at home) while taking Terbutaline. Currently I am 35 weeks and still taking the medication until next week when I am in the clear for delivering if the contractions were to continue happening. Since bacterial vaginosis can cause preterm labor, my midwife thought that was the reason for the contractions at 27 weeks, but they were still there even after the infection went away.
Since I am so close to my due date (and likely will have our baby a little earlier than my due date) would it be okay to not take the medication? Generally the preterm labor that is a possibility from not treating is no longer a concern. I feel so bad going against what my midwife has recommended, but I really don’t want to take another antibiotic. Would leaving this untreated be harmful?

I was given a test for this over 2 weeks ago at my prenatal appointment, but even though i called multiple times for the results, the doctor’s office just gave them to me yesterday. I am afraid i might miscarry, and i cannot get the medication for another day or too. am i too late?

So I am 99% sure that for the last month I have had a BV infection. I am 24 weeks pregnant, and had almost exactly the same issues when I was 12 weeks along. I was treated then, right away. My husband is military, and I won’t be allowed to visit my OB until mid-June ( next appt. ). I called and that was the VERY soonest they will see me, even when I mentioned I thought I had an infection. So for a month now I have had these symptoms, and it will be another 2 1/2 weeks before I am seen, if they do not change my appt. AGAIN. So other than my frustration at military drs. ( no, my insurance will not let me have a civilian unless I switch my insurance altogether which I def. do not want to do ). Anyways, this is my 3rd child, last pregnancy delivered at 36 weeks if it matters. I keep finding conflicting info on the net, and was wondering if anyone else has had this untreated for so long?
They won’t call in the prescription because it was an ER that prescribed it. ( I thought I was miscarrying so I went into the ER. But Tricare doesn’t consider an infection to be an emergancy so it won’t be covered if I go in ). Which sucks.

I got my first pap a couple days ago and it was the most AWFUL moment of my life! I was crying and freaking out, I dont know if it was pain or just extremely uncomfortable. I do have BV and a yeast infection (gross i know)…would that cause pain and discomfort during a pap? Im just scared to go back and have my doctor say I have cancer!

I recently treated a yeast infection for the first time 5 days ago. I used Monistat 1, which is a little more potent, and may have worked too well. Now I have a thick, white, smelly discharge, and I think it may be a bacterial infection caused by a lack of yeast. Can this happen, or is this a normal side effect?
It may be the cream, but everything I’ve read has said that it should be completely expelled by 3 days, and it’s been 5

So I was speaking to my doctor yesterday and she told me the best way for women to avoid Bacterial vaginosis(infection) is to only wash with water. She says that is more common than yeast infections and that most women get it because they wash with soap. Is this true or not? If it is true what can I use to wash "down there" because I refuse to wash with water only.
