Can wakeboarding (in warm lake water) cause bacterial vaginosis?

How do you find out if you have it? What kind of testing is involved? Can you have it for along time and not really know it? Will it go away on its own, or do you need antibiotics?

Yes, it can. It can also cause a yeast infection. The symptoms of yeast is a thick "cottage cheese-like" discharge with redness and itching but rarely any odor. BV has a thick foul smelling yellowish to greenish discharge. The doctor will take a swab of the vagina and look at it under a microscope. It’s a pretty quick test and easy to diagnose. If it’s fungal, Monistat is over the counter. If it’s BV you’ll need antibiotics.
It’s not necessarily the lake water that can cause the problem, it’s being in wet clothing, especially tight spandex like a swimsuit, that will cause the bacteria or yeast to grow. It’s best to get out of a wet suit and dry off as soon as possible. Good luck
lets just say bad things happen in warm dark moisty places.
