Can men get bacterial vaginosis from women?

I was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis yesterday. My boyfriend is the only guy I’ve ever had sex with. I was just wondering if it’s possible for him to get it because we don’t use condoms (save me the lecture, I’ve heard it all before). I know it isn’t an STD, but I was still wondering.

No the bacterial responsible for vaginosis cannot survive in a male body. Hence men cannot get it. However if a woman is suffering from it it is best to abstain from having sexual intercourse till such time that the infection disappears completely. Chances of vaginosis worsening are greater when you have sex before getting completely cured of bv..

Yes and no.
Bacterial vaginosis is specifically an infection that effects the vagina so men cannot contract Bacterial Vaginosis, however it is in most basic terms a bacterial infection as such you can in turn give him a bacterial infection – it is possible he has an infection without showing symptoms so he may in turn give you the infection again, also of course Bacterial Vaginosis is a higher risk when sexually active and when not practising safer sex (this doesn’t just mean using condoms).
