Bacterial Vaginosis, Remedies?
I recently was diagnosed with BV, I just finished taking Flagyl and it worked like a charm. (it’s only been 4 days)
But I’m menstruating and using tampons and now I’m worried it might come back. (I know I should use pads but I can’t afford them right now)
I’ve heard about using a yogurt injection and/or rinsing with diluted apple cider vinegar. Has anyone used these methods before?
Should I rinse myself with the diluted ACV after my period is done?

Generally speaking bacterial vaginosis is caused by an overgrowth of a particular bacteria that is already found within the vagina. This is commonly caused by a round of antibiotics. The antibiotics kill off the normal flora (lactobacillis) and allow Garderenella and bacteroides bacteria to overgrow within the vagina causing bacterial vaginosis. Since you’ve had your round of flagyl (metronidazole) you should be fine. BV has no relation to your menstrual periods so you shouldn’t worry about it. You can take lactobacillus per the vaginal route if you like, but I would not recommend rinsing with vinegar. They have special packages of lactobacillus at the pharmacy that are specifically made for the vagina, check at your local drug store.
I hope this helps.
Do not use those methods for a bacterial infection! Those methods create a more acidic (lower) pH, perfect for bacteria. They are recommended for yeast infections. With yeast, you have a more basic (higher) pH than normal and the bacteria in yogurt and the acidity of vinegar helps the good bacteria grow. In your case it can also help the bad bacteria grow. Don’t use the methods you mentioned. I’ve had chronic infections before, so I’ve used the home remedies before. Also, if you want to use something other than tampons, try the Instead SoftCup (I get them at Target). They aren’t that expensive and instead of absorbing liquid like a tampon, it just holds it in the cup until you take it out. They take a little practice and I recommend using latex or similar gloves since it can get a little messy when you change it, but I think they’re the best thing. Check out http://www.softcup.com/
no no no
BV is caused by an overgrowth of bacteria… to lessen your chance of another infection wear cotton underwear.. no thongs (the thong can bring bacteria from your rectum to your vagina), wipe from front to back, and just have good hygiene.
Ive had it a couple of times and its not fun, but it does happen.
dont have sex while you have it or while you are being treated for it. and do not douche… it can kill the "good bacteria" as well.
