Bacterial Vaginosis – Question for someone with experience with this or someone in healthcare?

Why is bacterial vaginosis classified as an STD when there are many other ways to get this even if you are not currently sexually active, like by wiping incorrectly or bad diet. Can someone please clear this up for me?

Soliloquy is quite incorrect…bacterial vaginosis is NOT caused by a virus, it is a BACTERIAL infection. Also it is NOT cured with creams (that’s yeast infection) it is cured with ANTIBIOTICS.
I’m glad you asked this question, I don’t have a response but I will be back to see what people say.
It is not just classified as a sexual disease. I know of 2 people whom have contracted this virus. 1 is sexually active, while the other is in a serious committed relationship. I do know that it can be cured, by a vaginal cream, that is applied by 5 applications at bedtime. I do beleive that it can be contracted by the above previous answers, also by many others.
Women just need to be more careful in that sooo important area. I’ve always been told that the womens vagina, is like the "Venus Flytrap", when it comes to contracting, the unmentionables. I too was informed that if not sexually active, the cause is unknown, on how it is contracted?
Mere inclusion of this condition in the List of STD cases does not preclude some one getting infected from causes other than current sexual activity. For example, a person who contracted the disease in younger days and got it suppressed by anti biotics may get some of the bacteria in dormant state suddenly activated when conditions like low immunity or high alkalinity in the body favor its re-emergrnce and virulent growth.
There are also umpteen other possible sources of infection. Don’t get disturbed by the so called imolications of the classification. Give urgent priority to cure the condition completely, taking the full treatment for it till clearance is given by two negative reports at a month’s interval.. A simple but effective remedy paractisable at home is to use a douch made of the water boiled with Goose berry leaves(50 grams leaves to a litre of water. If this tree is not available, the leaves of any tree with sour leaves can be substituted, Repeat the treatment for ten days. I contracted this recently whislt 4 months pregnant & I am & have not slept with anyone else other than the father of my baby, it can be sexually transmitted but is not always. I had to suringe cream in to my vagina for 5 nights & went back to be tested & it had gone.
I have this problem right now. My doctor told me it can happen for many reasons. She said I can get from unprotected sex, I can get it from having anal sex and then immediately having vaginal sex. It`s a bacteria, not a virus. It must be cured using an antibiotic.But I think I got it from using bubble bath, the bubble bath irritated my vagina causing me to get an infection. Trichamonas is also classified as a vaginal infection, that is definitely an STD.
KEY WORD : BACTERIAL, which needs to be cured with antibiotics.
People call it different things, some say it’s an STD and others say it’s not, I personally say it is not because sex is not the only way you can contract this, their are many ways it’s basically a hormonal imbalance down their. I have had Bacterial Vaginosis befor due to an imbalance between my good and bad bacterias, I did not contract it sexually because i have been with the same man for a long time and men cannot contract this infection..Most the time BV can clear up by itself but in other cases you will need a perscription like keyflex that is what i had to take and it cleared up within 4-5 days.
After a woman has gotten this infection their 10 times more likely to get it again so you should always keep a look out and remember to stay clean, their’s nothing more embarrassing then having an odor down their ect..
