Bacterial Vaginosis during third trimester…treatment?
i was dx’d with BV for the second time this pregnancy at 27 weeks. the doctor said it was mild, that we would keep an eye on it and only treat if it became necessary.
i have a few questions:
how significant is the increase in chance of preterm labor without treatment of BV during 3rd trimester of pregnancy?
does the risk of preterm labor decrease with the flagyl treatment? what other risks are associated with the flagyl during 3rd trimester of pregnancy?
are there any other risks associated with BV other than preterm labor? is it possible to hurt the baby, the pregnancy or my future womanly health if i leave it untreated?
i’m now 29 weeks.

There is evidence that the rate of preterm labor will decrease if it is treated. I’m not quite sure why your doctor doesn’t want to treat it. I believe preterm labor is the only risk of leaving it untreated, but I’m not a doc. I would ask him for some more information and why he wants to leave it untreated. Good luck!
Lots of pregnant women get BV. Its ok. Your doctor should give you an antibiotic or something. Or he may just keep an eye on it. Its nothing to worry about.
