bacterial vaginosis during pregnancy?
kept thinking I was having bladder problems because I was leaking this clear fluid all the time. I thought I had a bladder infection so I went to the dr. today and they told me no I didn’t have a bladder infection. I said I was having a burning feeling in that area, peeing alot, and pelvic pressure, something was wrong but I did not know what. She decided to do a swab and said immediately I have bacterial vaginosis. I am 17 weeks prego and scared for my baby! I did some research and it seems bacterial vaginosis can cause pre term labor and a low birth weight. I think I’ve had the infection for a long time without knowing so I am really stressed out.
So my question is, has anyone else been diagnosed with this during pregnancy and how did your pregnancy go?
The dr. prescribed me a cream to get rid of it in 7 days. I wish she would have given me pills instead.
It’s good to know that it’s pretty normal during pregnancy. Hearing you ladies stories really helped me. Thanks alot.

I had that with my second pregnancy..I actually had it for a while and didnt know either until she did a culture and told me i had it..I was 16 weeks at that point…She gave me some cream for 7 days as well…I gave birth at 41 1/2 weeks (definitely not preterm) and my baby boy weighed 9 lbs and 1 ounce (definitely not low birth weight),i think docs say these things to scare us..lol
but the majority of the time everything usually works out fine…You and your baby will be ok..take your meds and no sex until it clears up…good luck!
yes. and they usually give you something for it…Flagyl i believe its called. you can take it by a vaginal cream or by pill. i would go with pill. its something that’s is easily curable…don’t worry =]
the cream should work well… but the only thing that annoyed me with it is that it would discharge durring the day from taking it at night…wear a pantie liner. =]. the pills taste horrible.. lol.
yes. it can cause pre-term labor. my friends baby was born prematurely because she had a vaginal infection like that, it was born at 21 weeks…
don’t worry, during my pregnancy I had it 5 seperate times. It is annoying as hell and the medication for it is messy and at times uncomfortable, but I had my son and he was healthy and perfect. My advice to you is don’t stress, and there really isn’t anything you can do to prevent it except make sure your partner washes his junk really good before he tries to stick you with it.
yes hi i have had this. i had everything that i thought was bad wrong with me, i went to the doctors and he did a swab and found that i have a bacterial vagina infection and i had to be put onto cream for 7 days. i know its not a good feeling putting cream into your vagina through a syringe thing, i had to do it for 7 days, but hey it works and nothing was wrong with my baby and its safe to use while being pregnant. if they don’t get rid of it using the cream, than when you give birth it can cause infections to your baby, that’s about all. just use the cream and you will see that all the problems you are having will go like mine have. good luck and congrats.
I have had it twice. The first time, the doctor gave me the cream and the second time I had the pills. The doctor told me it was a very common side effect of pregnancy and there was no way to prevent it.
I did the same thing as you and read about it online. He told me to also stay off the internet because I was making myself paranoid.
I think you’ll be fine. Just watch for anything unusual and if you suspect anything at all, call your doctor. That’s what they’re there for.
Good luck!
