Hi, I’m 34 wks pregnant and can empathize with the worry you’re going through. From listeria to toxoplasmosis to cigarrette smoke to stress, we have a lot to think about (and avoid)!!
First, you’ve got to trust your doctor. I had a scare with toxoplasmosis (fortunately never got it), but the internet is a fraught with misinformation. If you don’t trust your doctor, find another one that you do trust. If he or she says you shouldn’t worry, I’d take that advice and/or get a second opinion.
BV is a common vaginal infection. You have all sorts of bacteria (or microrganisms) in your vagina. Good and bad. BV is an overgrowth of the "bad". Yeast infections (and the like) are very, very common during pregnancy as our hormones change, but BV usually occurs in sexually active women. It’s not your partner’s fault, but you might want to ask him to clean himself before having sex with you. Avoid putting any unnecessary creams, gels and sex-jellies "down there" while pg.
Keep eating healthy and cut out as much sugar in your diet as possible (which promotes yeast and bacteria overgrowth, plus your body while pregnant doesn’t process sugar the same way). Eat lean meats and make sure you’re excercising (even though I’m sure you don’t feel like it!)
Good luck with your pregnancy and I’m sure everything is going to be ok! Trust your doctor, if not, find one that you like – peace of mind is worth it during pregnancy because it’s such a wonderful time!
Then don’t worry about it! You will know if something isn’t right and deal with it then. You could "what if" yourself into a tizzy and you get so so much of that trying to raise them. My advice to you for the next 20 years is don’t sweat the small stuff, don’t dwell on the worst that might or could happen. You know what you’re doin you just don’t know it yet. Enjoy now for what it’s worth or you’ll be gray way way before your time! Eat right, and drink a lot of water. And sleep! You’ll appreciate it down the road!
i also had an infection while pregnant (GBS…..I think) the doctor explained that it would do no harm to me but could give bubs an infection as she passes through the birth cannel. they gave me antibiotics through labour to help fight it and checked my baby girls temperature every couple of hours for 48 hours after birth……..everything turned out great!!! you’ll be fine….
ps. while i was pregnant and something was wrong i would always look it up on the net and read worse case senario and freak out. as wrong as it is…im sure ill do it all the time with this pregnancy too…….its just a mum worrying thing i think!
I found out I had BV at 24 weeks. Since I was already half way though, he gave me antibiotics for it, but I was having some awful symptoms that many people don’t get. He did say that until you get to a certain point in pregnancy, that they can’t give you that antibiotic unless the infection has gotten really bad.
At your next appointment, ask your doctor when it will be treated and voice your concerns regarding possible miscarriage.
