Some doctors consider it an STD, and some don’t. It is generally associated with being sexually active, and you can pass it back and forth to eachother, thus reinfecting yourself. Things that put you at risk for it are wiping from back to front when going to the bathroom, a new sex partner or multiple sex partners, by douching, or using an IUD. Women that have never had sexual intercourse are rarely affected.
Women with BV may have an abnormal vaginal discharge with an unpleasant odor. Some women report a strong fish-like odor, especially after intercourse. Discharge, if present, is usually white or gray; it can be thin. Women with BV may also have burning during urination or itching around the outside of the vagina, or both. Some women with BV report no signs or symptoms at all.

BV is an upset in normal vaginal flora usually brought on by stress or douching.
Symptoms include a thick, yellow discharge with a distinctive fishy odor.
BV is not an STD, it is an infection and should be treated with an antibiotic called metronidozole, brand name Flagyl, usually for five days.
If you think you have BV you will need to be seen by your practitioner and have a simple test done in the office.
