Bacterial Vaginosis?
I just found out from a urologist that the urinary tract infection type symptoms that I have been getting are because of untreated Bacterial Vaginosis. I had no idea that I had it. I dont have the common symptoms such as weird discharge, itchy, or foul odor. but i just got prescribe Flagyl. 2 a day for 3 days. and I wonder when should I see results. also if I have sex will I smell bad even though I have none of the common symptoms. Im sorry but that would be very embarrassing
Im sorry it was 2 a day for 5 days.

BV is not an STI (it stems from bacteria normally present in the vagina increasing in number due to changes in pH of the vagina) but you and your partner could potentially pass it back and forth.
The organisms associated with BV would be a very rare cause of a UTI. In my lab we probably have 250-300 urine cultures a day and might get one a year that grows one of the causative agents of BV and even then it’s generally considered to have washed off from the genital area rather than have been recovered from urethra and/or bladder.
BV has a very distinctive foul odor associated with it.
In my professional opinion, flagyl is an odd antibiotic to treat a potential UTI. In all honesty, I’d seek a second opinion.
How about no sex until that bacterial infection is cleared up??
Your partner can carry it in his urethra and he probably needs to be treated also. Doc should have been on top of that. Call his office and get an Rx for your partner, then both of you get tested before you partner up again. If you have multiple partners……get them all treated.
They call it "safe sex" for a reason. You’re lucky you don’t have HIV.
although male partners are not prone to have this infection, it would still be safer to hold sex after completing treatment.it is still classified as an STD after all. and it is not uncommon to not have any symptoms, many women have reported no symptoms according to CDC.
With bacterial vaginosis, it would be better to wait until you were completely cleared up before you have sex because you could pass it to your partner, which in turn can pass it back to you. You should see results near the end of the treatment, but by all means keep taking the Flagyl until it is completely gone. This way, you will know that the infection is completely gone.
