Bacterial vaginitis infection question?
Hey everyone! I wanted to let you know that my spotting is due to a bacterial vaginitis infection. My midwife (who I absolutely love!) gave me Metronidazole 500mg twice a day for 7 days. She said this was completely safe and BV is a common thing in early pregnancy. I am 8 weeks and 3 days today.
Has anyone had BV with spotting? Anyone taken this medicine? Any side effects that you experienced?
I read on the card that comes with your prescription that it should not be taken within the first trimester. But, if it weren’t safe, my midwife would not have given it to me….right? 
I am guessing the benefits outweigh the risks.
Any opinions?

I had the same exact thing. If you will read the drug insert, it states that it is a category B drug. Meaning basically that there really hasn’t been enough testing on it in pregnant women to say for sure. Like Tylenol is a known safe drug in pregnancy – this is not a known safe drug, but it is also not a known harmful drug.
In reality, doctors have been giving it for years to pregnant women, and obviously, your doctor/midwife wouldn’t give it to you if she had ever had bad results from it. So personally, I wouldn’t worry about it. BV can cause premature labor, so basically, they think the possible risks outweigh the consequences if you don’t take it.
The benefits outweigh the risk of your child dying. =]

hi, i have bv at the moment, i am on different tablets to you, but the pharmasist did tell me that it wasnt safe to take anti biotics in the 1st and 3rd trimester (im in the 2nd trimester), but my doctor told me it was safe but didnt say in what trimester
i had the same but the pharmacist told me it was only safe to take it in the 2nd-3rd trimester.
