Previously it was thought that BV wouldn’t transmitted to the partners. But changing of human behavior has changed everything.
Any woman can get BV (bacterial vaginosis), but spouses are at higher risk of getting it if : you have a new sex partner or multiple sex partners. you use an intrauterine device (IUD) for birth control. you douche.

Though in BV, Gardnerella and or Mobiluncus morphotypes will be prominent but possibilities of involvement of other bacteria (few or absent Lactobacilli) are there for multiple sex partners. Still, there is no guarantee that transmission will not occur in sex partners [previously we thought that BV wouldn’t transmitted to the partners. But changing of human behavior has changed everything]. Patients should be instructed to avoid sex until they and their sex partners are cured by taking appropriate medication advised by registered doctor (i.e., when therapy has been completed and patient and partner(s) are asymptomatic). BV should not be confused with yeast infection (candidiasis), or infection with Trichomonas vaginalis (trichomoniasis) which are not caused by bacteria.
It is fact that men consist different genital organs, there are possibilities to transmit BV to men (BV is common in pregnant women and in childbearing age, transmission to her sexual partner is possible). Having trichomoniasis (caused by Trichomonas vaginalis) or BV may increase the chance that an HIV- infected woman passes HIV to her sex partner(s).
BV is the name of a condition in women where the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina is disrupted and replaced by an overgrowth of certain other bacteria [Treponema pallidum (bacteria) causes syphilis / Neisseria gonorrhoeae (bacteria) causes gonorrhoea / Chlamydia trachomatis (bacteria) causes Chlamydia / Hemophilus ducreyi (bacteria) causes chancroid or other bacteria]. So, in diagnosing BV, it is important to exclude other serious infections, such as gonorrhea and chlamydia.
Examining the vaginal discharge under the microscope can help distinguish bacterial vaginosis from yeast vaginitis (candidiasis) and trichomonas (a type of sexually transmitted infection). Certain factors have been identified that increase the chances of developing bacterial vaginosis. These include multiple or new sexual partners, vaginal douching, and cigarette smoking. Untreated / inadequate treated BV may cause serious complications, such as increased susceptibility to STI / STD including HIV. Recent research is exploring the link between sexual partner treatment and eradication of recurrent cases of BV.

Did you know: The genital inflammation cause by trichomoniasis or BV can increase a woman’s susceptibility to HIV infection if she is exposed to the virus. Having trichomoniasis or BV may increase the chance that an HIV-infected woman passes HIV to her sex partner(s). So, men are at higher risk of getting it.
See your doctor right away for STD testing if you think that you might have an STD and be sure to mention that you are worried about an STD if your doctor doesn’t.
