I just treated what I thought was a yeast infection Monday with Monistat 1. I have had yeast infections in the past and though the itching/burning was the same there was very little white discharge. It’s been 72 hours since treatment & the itch has intensified! I spoke with my gyno’s staff & they can not get me in for a few weeks right now. She suggested Monistat 3, that it works better.
I have just gotten myself paranoid (maybe) wondering if perhaps it could be Bacterial Vaginosis since there was very minimal white discharge.
Have had a yellowish discharge on occasions but I assumed that was normal. Also, once in a while I notice a somewhat yucky odor, but I don’t know that I ever would consider a vaginal to smell good. I don’t know if this is all reason to be alarmed. Also, with using Monistat 1 wonderinf if it was too much meds at once and I need to just try Monistat 3. Thoughts?

What if you have gone to the doctor 15 times. What if you have tried the meds over and over again? I suffer with reoccurring BV. I have tried everything. Here is what I have tried:
All known medications (flagyl & metrogel)
Changed my diet (no sugar, yeast)
Cotton underwear
No feminine products
No tampons (pads only)
No sex (two months)
No tight cloths
Wipe front to back
Use alcohol wipe after each bowel movement
Use dye & perfume free soaps & detergents.
The Results:
The meds have destroyed the lining of my stomach causing severe cramping (not related to periods). The doctor should warn women of this side effect.
I lost 20 lbs but still have bv. I am depressed and my husband thinks I’m not attracted to him.
What’s next? I saw on this site where someone used "uritract powder" I can not find this anywhere but I hope to find it and use it! Also, I read about using Tea Tree Essential Oil. I found this at GNC in the mall & I am going to use it. Ideas? Help!!!

What happens if you leave BV (bacterial vaginosis) untreated? I started having symptoms back in December and ignored them until now because they’re very annoying and I’ve just put the pieces together. I wonder if there’s any permanent damage or issues with leaving it so long? Thanks!

I recently had sex with my husband and i guess we went at it a little longer than i thought because i started to dry up downstairs. Well i had him use some lube but i guess it wasn’t enough, because when we got done i was in instant pain and had a red rash on the inside of my labia and it burned like crazy when i urinated afterwards. So being the common sense girl i thought i was i put a dab of neosporin on my labia minora to help with the burning and stinging, i thought this would be a good idea, yeah i was wrong. Now i have a massive yeast infection i think and i am in soooo much pain. I have used a monistat 3 kit and it helped but im still having symptoms and i finished the 3rd treatment yesterday. SHould i hit up my gyno for some Diflucan or what? I didn’t use the neosporin internally so i thought it would be ok to put it just on the outside on my labia, could that still have gotten up inside my vagina and caused this problem. I know it’s not an STD and i’ve had yeast infections before so i know what to look for symptom wise, this is like a super painful yeast infection, i have also had BV (bacterial Vaginosis) before and i don’t think it’s that. What should i do? And please don’t make fun it was an honest mistake.

every time I go tot he doc to get a pap smear I test postive for Bacterial vaginosis…I can only have sex every now and then because I will be sore and it takes a few days for it to go away. No doctor can explain it. Ia m pregnant so I hear it is not safe to have bacterial vaginosis when you are pregnant because it can cause problems, is there any hope for me and my problem?

I rarely resort to Yahoo Answers. But I consider myself officially DESPERATE.
I’ve been suffering from Bacterial Vaginosis for an entire year now. I’ve tried everything. I’ve seen four different doctors and have had like 5 different treatments.
The first doctor told me it was a yeast infection. I tried three different kinds of over-the-counter yeast infection vaginal medicine. NOTHING. So I went back. This doctor told me it was BV. She prescribed me a 7 day antibiotic. It worked for maybe a few days. And the stupid thing was freaking back! At this point I started trying home remedies. Nothing, still. I saw a different doctor. She prescribed me oral antibiotics as well. They didn’t work. I went back, and she prescribed me different antibiotics. Those didn’t work either. After visiting a different doctor, I found out that the last antibiotics don’t even treat BV, they treat bladder infection. F*CK! So I went to a different doctor. She gave me vaginal antibiotics instead of oral ones. I was to insert the gel every night for five nights, and then once a week for six months. She said my boyfriend and I could have sex after the first five nights and any night that I’m not taking the antibiotics. I was impressed with how well the medicine worked. Then my boyfriend and I had sex ONCE. Just ONCE. And it’s back worse than ever. I’ve tried everything possible.
I’m desperate. What do I do? My boyfriend has been with me before I ever got the infection. And frankly, I’m surprised he hasn’t left me yet. I’m in pain. I’m embarrassed. I can’t even have sex with my own boyfriend. Not only am I embarrassed to, but I’ve lost my sex drive completely. I’ve lost all my confidence. It has been way too long with few results. I’m afraid to lose my boyfriend because I can’t get rid of this stupid infection. I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s ruining my life. If you have any suggestions, please help. Anything is helpful. PLEASE. :’(
I have been tested for STD’s, though he has not. I was clean in all areas except for HPV, which is not a contributor to BV. I don’t think he’s really going to leave me. We talked about it last night and he assured me that it isn’t the case whatsoever.

I went to my OBGYN and she asked me if I have discharge and I said yes so she swabbed my cervix and said that I have bacterial vaginosis and thats why I’ve been having discharge. But I have had discharge everday since I started my period when I was 9. So is it really bacterial vaginosis?

Had a check up yesterday (29 weeks pregnant)
I told my doc about a yeast infection I felt coming on, so she did an exam and turns out I had both a yest infection AND bacterial vaginosis. (Anyone know what the heck causes this by the way?)
Anyway, I was prescribed Clindesse vaginal insert (an antibiotic) for the BV (which I took last night) and a 1 dose pill of Diflucan for the yeast infection (havent taken it yet).
Now I know from experience that antibiotics cause yeast infections… so should I wait for the BV treatment to fully work (5 days) before I take the Diflucan for the yeast infection? I’m worried if I take it now, the yeast infection will return from taking the antibiotics.
Also, does anyone know if the generic form of Diflucan (Fluconazole) is just as effective as the name brand?
